Holly Thompson successful in the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division.
On 21st October 2026, Holly Thompson appeared in the Court of Appeal in respect of an appeal against sentence, acting on behalf of the appellant.
The appellant was sentenced on 14th July 2026 for two offences of a non-dwelling burglary. He received a total sentence of 28 months, with 12 months to run concurrently. Following the hearing, Holly advised that the sentence was manifestly excessive and subsequently drafted grounds of appeal to that effect.
Leave was granted by the Single Judge, and the Court of Appeal agreed with Holly’s submissions that the sentence was manifestly excessive. The original sentences were quashed, substituting 20 months for the lead offence with a 8-month concurrent term for the second offence. The Court therefore reduced original custodial term by a period of 8 months.
